Description

Since originally being published in 1998, Birmingham…The Sinister Side has sold over 30,000 copies and been re-printed several times. The author Steve Jones wrote 13 books in total, two of which were translated into Japanese and Chinese.

The late Dave Cross, curator of the West Midlands Police Museum, contributed heavily to the original Sinister Side book, assisting author Steve Jones with access to the police archives and prisoner mug shots.

In July 2018 the West Midlands Police Museum contacted Steve Jones to ask if the book could be re-printed again, in order to get this fantastic book seen and enjoyed by more people, and to help raise funds for the museum. Steve agreed and was pleased that his book would once again be for sale. After visiting the Lock-up he was excited by the plans to relocate the museum and happy to support them.

Sadly Steve died suddenly in August 2018, before the book as re-printed. He left behind a wife, Christina, and a 13 year-old son Tommy.
This book is therefore dedicated to the memory of the man who told the story of criminality in Victorian and Edwardian Birmingham so wonderfully, bringing history to life for so many people.
